About Fab Fibres
I have enjoyed craft hobbies since childhood and have special interests in needlework and folk art painting. In 2003 I became involved with texture as an essential ingredient of design and created Fab Fibres to fill a niche of providing textural threads, initially for embroidery but also for general craft use, such as scrapbooking, tassels, embellishments, cardmaking, costume design and lots more.
And what Kiwi interested in texture cannot become involved with wool? The wonderful range of carded and dyed New Zealand wools available led me to develop my own textile/fabric which I have called Woolpaper. I am delighted with sales to a wide variety of artists and craftspeople who have used Woolpaper to compliment their own work in areas such as applique, bookmaking, mask-making, stamping, hand- and machine-embroidery.
Woolpaper is purchased by the sheet at stock size minimum of A5 (21 x 15cm or 8.25 x 5.875 inches). In most cases the staple runs on the long axis but occasionally is omnidirectional. Other sizes can be made to order – just email with your requirements. Because each sheet is handmade the edges are not uniform or cut but the “soft” edge can be used to great effect. Woolpaper is a semi-stiffened fabric that can be cut, punched, stamped, hand- or machine-embroidered – its uses are limited only by your imagination! Because I use a wide variety of plain and multicoloured wools and am constantly sourcing new colours most multicoloured sheets are unique. Only plain colours are repeatable long-term. Many of the multicoloured and shaded (different depths of same colour) are similar to photos shown. Woolpaper is available either as separate sheets or “with threads”. The latter contain 10 different threads of 1m each combined to compliment the woolpaper.
Also available are Doll’s Hair – wonderful dreadlocks in 6m lengths; Metallic Yarns on 10m bobbins; Nepalese Handspun Yarns in silk and other natural fibres in 5m hanks; Treasure Packs – gorgeous combinations of fabrics and threads (easily sufficient to make quite a large cushion front or for crazy patchworking); and my newest Freeform Yarn Packs – sumptuous colour-coordinated yarns for freeform knitting and crochet in 110gm gift packs.
All prices are in New Zealand Dollars and include GST. Overseas orders will not include GST (12.5%). Packing and freight/courier/postage charges are extra. Orders can be made by email, phone or post but unless credit facility has been established payment must be made before orders are despatched. Payment may be made by NZ$ cheque or Direct Credit.
